WhereToGo CAMELS

Our portfolio of Africa safari destinations includes different geographic areas, different styles of accommodation, different types of activities and even different wildlife. All that choice sometimes makes it hard to decide where to go on your safari. Keeping that in mind, we have created a few suggested itineraries to start you thinking – however, please know that you can mix and match these itineraries to your heart’s content. We just want you to have an amazing time when visiting any of the Africa properties.
When any of these itineraries do catch your fancy, please contact our office for pricing information.

JESS@FriendsTravel.com 24|7|365

Introduction to Kenya – This safari gives you an introduction to what we like to call the “golden triangle” of Kenya – the Chyulus & Amboseli area, the Laikipia & Mt. Kenya area and the Masai Mara. This itinerary includes a mix of lodges & tented camps and on it you’ll cross the equator and thus get to experience different species of wildlife that are only native to a specific hemisphere.

Romance of East Africa – This safari includes some of our most romantic safari destinations – perfect for a honeymoon, anniversary or anytime you want to relax with a loved one. On this itinerary there are many opportunities for romantic bush dinners, spa time as well as all the traditional safari activities. Love is truly in the air.

Get Out and Get Active – While all of our properties provide activities that get you out of the vehicle and moving, this safari includes our most active safari destinations. On this itinerary you’ll be able to not only do game walks but also hiking, horseback riding, camel trekking, mountain biking, fly camping and even fly in a replica biplane if you wish. Perfect for those who simply can’t sit still.

King (or Queen) of the Castle – Our safari destinations include a portfolio of private houses – perfect places to call home while on safari. This itinerary includes 3 of our most popular houses that are located in three very different geographic areas so you get the chance to experience different wildlife, topography and local culture. All from your own private home in the bush.

Put one Foot in Front of the Other – There is nothing like being out on foot while in the bush and no way better to experience this than on a mobile walking safari. Don’t worry you won’t have to carry your own tent, our team of camels will do that for you and the tribesmen that you will be out with will set up camp for you every night. Learn the art of tracking & bush craft firsthand.

Let’s Horse Around – A unique experience for the experienced horse rider, a mobile riding safari in some of the most picturesque scenery in all of East Africa. Imagine seeing elephant, lion, cheetah on horseback or riding out amongst the zebra, giraffe and other plains game. A truly once in a lifetime safari.

Untouched Africa: Conservation and Culture

Anyone who has traveled to East Africa before knows that Northern Tanzania can be quite busy. Down in Southern Tanzania, you’ll experience remote Africa, where it feels like you have the continent to yourself. Following an evening on the coast in Dar Es Salaam, guests will travel to Ruaha National Park and the stunningly private Mwagusi Safari Camp. In one of only 13 tented bandas that line the dry Mwagusi River bed, you will witness experiential Africa. Ruaha offers untold rewards to those who venture off the beaten track with dramatic landscapes, abundant wildlife and a fleeting glimpse of an Africa long-forgotten. Born and raised locally, owner Chris Fox is notorious for his profound knowledge and experience with the wildlife, people and the land of Ruaha. He is best known for his deep understanding of animal behavior especially with wild African elephants, forming astonishing relationships with these incredibly intelligent creatures. With Fox trained guides, you will experience Africa as never before.

The Selous Safari Project is an unprecedented effort of conservation in Tanzania. For decades, this area of the Selous has been prime hunting ground and the site of incredible decimation. However, Lukula Selous has made tremendous headway with the Tanzanian government to restore the land and have turned this region into an pristine 300,000 acre ecology sanctuary, allowing a mere eight people in at a time to see a real Africa – the way nature intended. Photography is incomparable and as a Ker & Downey guest, you will have a complete, bespoke itinerary prepared for you, allowing you exclusive closeness with the Selous like never before.

Travel south now to Mozambique and the famed Arabic coast. The coastal city of Pemba is your first destination: distinctly Portuguese, a throwback from colonial times, with a hint of African culture and personality. Here, the Makonde and Makua peoples make up the population and it is not uncommon to hear Portuguese and Swahili spoken in the same stall in the city’s impressive traditional souk. The tenth day of your tour places you inland at Lugenda Wilderness Camp, within the woody confines of Mozambique’s Niassa Reserve. Within the past century, Mozambique has been home to phenomenal wildlife and plush landscape, only to see it obliterated by a civil war. The area of the Niassa Reserve, particularly beautiful with its giant kopjes that jut out of the ground, is slowly making its comeback. Wildlife has returned, the land has been restored; but to this day, hardly anyone has seen it in this condition. With us, you’ll explore this untouched region of Africa with excellent guides who will show off an area is truly wild, happily secluded populations of elephant, sable, zebra and leopards, as well as over 200 endangered African wild dog.
